One Man Killing Machine

So, I am releasing the above song today from my project 'The Tinkerbell Effect.'
I thought it would be interesting to chart the history of these songs and discuss the lyrics and so on; that way people get a taster of what went into the music.
When I released 'Antisocial' people complained about the mixing not being right and that it was too drum and electric guitar heavy. This is possibly down to the lack of confidence I had with my voice, but also the fact I wanted to create something that was an ode to the music I grew up with, that was guitar and drum driven.
With 'The Tinkerbell Effect,' I wanted the songs and the concepts behind the songs to do the talking, so I deliberately left the electric guitar out. I also turned the drums down and went with a thoroughly acoustic approach. There would have been no keyboard, were it not for a last minute rework of this track, that I felt needed something a little 'other worldly.'
One Man Killing Machine, has been sped up from the original. When you hear it, I want it to feel like a radio-friendly pop-rock whirlwind, that starts and finishes quickly. I made sure there were three levels to this tune, as I believe all good tracks need to go to three places. This track was always going to be the lead track from an EP that is more experimental and conceptual rather than poppy and fun.
The lyrics refer quite simply to the One Man Killing Machine. I tried to take a sardonic look at the relationships I have had that had faltered. There were quite a few 'biggies' in the lead up to this tune's conception. In the first instance the song centre's around the protagonist. However, the narrator shifts, as I take a look at what male characteristics it takes to completely destroy a relationship. The first is pride and we see the protagonists of my past and recent history, dealing in a great deal of it, which leads them only to becoming their own '1MKM.'
The song moves into the third chunk discussing how the narrator feels like merely a vessel to give others what they need from him. For instance, he is 'the station, you're passing through.' Due to the 1MKM's nature, people only pass through, they don't stay.
By the end of the track, the narrator understands the error of his foolish pride and tries to make things up with his adversary's. Most likely, in death or later life, through wisdom, the protagonists may be able to put their pride down and make things right.
I hope you enjoy the first release from The Tinkerbell Effect - One Man Killing Machine.
(P.S. Before you all start, this was recorded in a spare room in spare time. I have done my best!)
ONE MAN KILLING MACHINE
I'm a one man killing machine
Can’t keep count of all the bodies there's been
I don't think I will make it home this time
They’re out to come and get me to commit the perfect crime
goodbye my old friend
there no room for any more egos in my head
Happily building up our wall
putting up the tower so I can watch it fall
My pride will be the death of me
So I blame you then I don't have to see
All the damage done all the wars lost and won
by the one man killing machine
You’re the one man killing machine
Can’t handle the girl living a different dream
I think you've finally made it home this time
but you once held her heart and now you say goodbye
goodbye my old friend
there are no room for any more egos in my head
Happily building up our wall
putting up the tower so I can watch it fall
My pride will be the death of me
So I blame you then I don't have to see
All the damage done all the wars lost and won
by the one man killing machine
The one man killing machine
So self-assured and lonely I guess that's how you been?
They never said this could happen to us
night
and my heart beats out my chest
and the ghosts are in my head
and spiders in my bed
When the sweat it soaks the sheets
and the voices try to tell me
that no one's really loved me
and everyone is waiting to leave
I’m just the station
You’re passing through
I’m just the ticket
getting you
to where you need
finally to be
and I'll go back to
being
the one man
killing machine
goodbye my old friend
I want to call to try and make amends
but then I won't be true to my
facade
I would have to kinda let down my guard
I'll see you when I'm happy and were on the other side
I'll see you in sunlight of the very darkest night
I'll see you in the shadow of an unsuspecting light
I'll see you when the killings over and I can get it right
